Today I share a few complementary colors in blooms and butterflies. The very last two orange blossoms of my daylilies stand with rosehips, jewel weed and lily-of-the-valley berries, along with purple asters which offer sweet nectar to the lovely butterflies... Orange Sulphur and American Painted Lady. The American Painted lady is also known as Vanessa virginiensis. This is my first photo ever of a painted Vanessa and I only just learned that all Vanessa butterflies migrate. To learn more about Vanessa butterflies go here . To see other gardens in bloom the world over visit May Dreams Gardens.

Hiya Carol,
That Painted Lady poses so beautifully for you. Didn't realize we shared that butterfly. From Africa?
Lovely to see.
You can see Vanessa cardui in Sweden, not that I have come across one! So beautiful wings, on both sides.
So you write i Swedish now! Very clever!! And correct spelling as well! To that we have to raise our glasses! Skål!! /Ruben
So lovely butterflies.. och your daylilies.. I love them. Your translation to Swedish, is good must be a very good translationtool you got, or maybe is it you.. *smile*. Sometime I should use something like this to, I understand almost everything but to spell, write and have good grammar in my text isn't easy =).. Have a nice day.. Moa
I visited the butterfly site first and came back. Interesting that one of the Painted Ladies Vanessa cardui is also found all over Europe, Africa and Asia. I've seen photos of her on some UK blog sites. Great photos. All my daylilies are long gone and the few butterflies I have are ignoring my asters:)

It would be hard for me to pick a favourite between those butterfly pictures, but they did seem to get better and better with every scroll. Wonderful depth of field.
Just love all the butterflies you've captured on the asters. Impressive that you know all the butterflies' names. I'm just getting into butterflies.
WOW - Stunningly beautiful!
Thusnelda said it for me ;- wow !!
and I do think your colours look well together..
Great macro pix. If only the butterflies would cooperate for me!!

Carol, the color combinations on your pictures are stunning! High class images!
Wow Carol, beautyful butterflies and pictures!
So beautiful. We also, here in Sweden, have a migrant butterfly called Amiral. She moves to the south of Europe. Hard to believe that something so small and delicate manages that.
Your color combinations are wonderful, and an intersting take on what is combining with what. Magical butterflies and you have a pretty magical hand with your camera, too. I'm so glad I found your blog. You are right in my neighborhood.
These photos are absolutely magical. I don't think there are words to describe their beauty.
Hi Carol, your blooms are lovely and your photography is immaculate. Its a joy visiting your blog.
Thanks for sharing
I just found your blog through Pat's--what lovely images! A butterfly is the perfect complement to any bloom. The painted ladies have been much fewer in number here this year, but at least we have had more of them than Monarchs, which are really scarce. I didn't know they were also called Vanessas; thanks for the info!
Carol...loved your post! The butterfly images are beautiful! So are the berries. Great combination of colours!
