Glorious morning light filled Ipomoea 'Heavenly Blue' from a couple weeks ago . . . it is still too wet and cold in the garden.
All the rain has made it hard to be a morning glory or a butterfly! The landscape, however, is greatly appreciative for the much needed refreshment.
The now southern bound Ruby-throated hummingbirds enjoyed playing in the last blooms and seed pods of Impatiens Roylei. I have tried for years to capture more than one at a time. This day . . . a couple of weeks ago . . . was my lucky day. Oh, how I wish I had a better camera. These first two (above and below) were taken through glass. They were not being territorial . . . these little juveniles are siblings . . . I wish I could have seen them in their nest! They are so sweet and it seems like they are sending wing hugs to one another. Now . . . I know that is silly of me.
As I opened the door, they moved over to the Thalictrum 'Lavender Mist' . . . a bit too far away for my camera. I do love seeing these two performing a duet days and weeks after they are no longer visiting the gardens.

I will be up to my neck in orchids for the next few days . . . zen inspired arrangements for a Sunday wedding. My work will keep me from taking part in the 10-10-10 global work parties. You can find out more about what might be happening in your area 350.org. Ninety five percent of all the flowers I have used this year in wedding work were grown either here or on neighboring farms. I love supporting other local farmers and it is best for the environment too.

Fantastic Morning Glory photos!!!! Sometimes a flower gets a very suitable name, and what could be a better name for this climber?? Your pictures make me think of - morning glory. Your hummingbirds are so nice to look at, keep using your camera, always!!!!

At first glance, your photos of hearts and morning glories evoked a one word comment: stunning. And as I scrolled down and saw the flowers in the rain . . . with that hanging droplet of water . . . I thought that I must say more, like how your photos are poems. And then my head filled with more words to say—about your wonderful imagination "wing hugs" indeed! I love it. The photos of the siblings produce another rich poem. (And on a personal note, your photos from past posts inspired me to find a Thalictrum "Lavender Mist.")
And just when it seems to be all about art and creativity, you remind us of the 350 10.10.10 global work parties. I heard that there are over 2000 worldwide. And even in our little community, at least a half dozen or more! Your mentioning using locally grown flowers expresses what the one day a year (10.10.10. and Earth Day, included) should eventually become: a lifestyle. Happy flower arranging~~and I hope you'll share your "still life" creations with us.

Although the Orchids for the wedding sound wonderful, I do so like the idea of your using locally grown flowers from your own farm and from neighbours. I know that I should prefer that!

The hummers are stopping by, but the only water in this garden comes from a hose.
Our dry season is very dry this year.

Carol, your photos are lovely...magnificent, actually! I've never been able to capture a hummingbird in mid-flight like that. Two is even better! Those are such great photos! I love the two hummingbirds together. I have a hard time taking photos of birds...let alone a hummingbird. I will keep trying though. Have a great weekend, too!

"Wing hugs", I love it! We often see multiple Anna's hummingbirds together, flitting between the sage flowers here. It's difficult enough capturing one on film though, getting the shutter speed right, and keeping up with focus, never mind two...AND through glass! Great job Carol!
Humming birds are such a novelty to me - so attractive. Heavenly Blue is my favourite Ipomoea. The colour is so, so blue! Have a good weekend.

I liked seeing the hummers in action with the photos series you shared. I miss our hummingbirds. They left about a month ago. It seems too calm without them.
This year I put purple Morning Glories next to each tomato plant in the green house. It came out lovely!
This blue colour was lovely!

One of my co-workers planted one if these on the chain link and barb wire fence that surrounds the garden center. Never has an ugly fence looked so good. Your capture of these blooms is wonderful.
