Continuing our walk about the gardens . . . the kings of the land circa 1790 . . . giant Rock Maples wearing crowns of Autumn.
Guarding the southern side of an old farmhouse . . . colossal trunks . . . woodcut . . . into the sky. One view from the lower garden. . . beneath an apple looking up through Hydrangea, Grasses and Magnolias stellata (left light green) and soulangeana (right).
Smoke Bush in the middle garden before Black Cherry.
Japanese Maple nearby turning brilliant before Black Cherry and further on the blazing forest edge.
Looking down into the Blueberry field, primary colors create forms. Native Blueberries before young Birch cluster.
Apple woodcutting before more vibrant Blueberry bushes, Sumac and the forest edge.
Walnut Hill still afire though color is falling and fading fast . . . with the wind and near frost nights.
Miscanthus grasses wave towards Shagbark Hickory wearing a Climbing Hydrangea.
The narrow eight to ten feet tall stems offer a unique viewpoint.
Velvet-like Wisteria seed pods hang like blooms.
Viburnums exhale values of Rose reds.
Apples of deep red still hang on. While above . . .
A garden and forest 'against the light' . . . an arching color wheel . . . after scattered stormy puffs.
A double rainbow closes the day!
Close enough Full Moon hangs majestic . . . fearless of dragon clouds.
Moon mirroring the setting sun . . . as he throws luminous washes of soft, mauve pink . . . into the billowing clouds.

Your garden always reminds me of a beautiful painting. Perhaps it is because the colours and shapes of the trees you have planted. The rainbow shot is superb.

Such beautiful pictures. I was out walking while it was still dark this morning and saw the incredible full moon. It was setting and near the horizon and as I walked it kept peaking through the trees. I grow continually more in awe of creation.

I went scrambling to my Trees in Canada book to see what a Rock Maple was - it is what we call a Sugar Maple - I've never seen one as large as that - the trees where I grew up in Quebec were soooo much smaller. Do you tap the tree in Spring? Splendid photos and delightful words.

Barbara, That is right Rock Maples are the same as Sugar Maples. I did tap them years ago but now since they are so old I just let them be. Wild honeybees live in the middle tree. They are mighty!! Thank you for visiting and sharing your kind words. Carol

dear Carol, I always think that trees are the purest form of gardening and these images certainly confirm that for me. The hazy, heather coloured autumn tints are just dreamy and look so magical against the sky.

i heard about that rainbow yesterday, but the only phenomena I saw was slush falling out of the sky at 12:30 while the winds imitated a tornado. This morning there was snow on the ground - but it fell while I was sleeping.
Such beautiful fall colors.. I envy you all of the Sugar Maples that you have in NE -- there's just a few here.
Carol what gorgeous Fall images. Your leaves look so pretty. I wish we could keep them on the trees though. LOL! The double rainbow is just gorgeous. I keep trying to catch just one rainbow and looked all summer when a storm was around with no luck. Yours looks just magnificent coming across the hill.

Your photos always bring your place to life. So much depth and I really like this day to night tour. What a great idea.
Aren't the sumacs just lovely at this time of year. It really is the only time I appreciate them. Same with Burning Bush. The reds that these two produce is just the brightest reds fall has to offer, well, next to Virginia Creeper and that other vine everyone really can do without, poison ivy.
They all give the maples competition for the most standout in the landscape. They stand up an are noticed with that look at me attitude.
I can almost smell the wood smoke in the valley and surely can feel the glorious beauty in New England! This was such a lovely start to the day with an even better finish with the rainbow and moon. So beautiful!
I think I have to view this again this evening very slowly with a glass of wine and some birdsong. Thank you. Just love those wisteria pods - have never seen before. And I must, must, must get those blueberries that have been on my list!

What a day, Carol! I am so in love with your giant Rock Maples wearing Autumn crowns. And the rainbow ... glorious. We saw one driving to the lake yesterday but by the time I slammed on the breaks and grabbed nearest camera, changed dead batteries ... :( Wasn't the moon amazing! And again tonight, I hope we will be blessed by the full moon (I'll thinking of you)!

Amazingly enough we had a mysterious rainbow a few days ago as well .. and it tried to be a double one but couldn't quite get it to form .. but hey, I take what ever I can get from the sky and appreciate it so much every time I see it : )
