Flower Hill Farm BUTTERFLIES OF 2011 ~ Eastern Tiger Swallowtail ~ Three Years Blog Anniversary

Eastern Tiger Swallowtails Papilio glaucus in threes flitting above and about Miss Canada Lilac this past June.

It seems most appropriate to mark my third blog anniversary with these endearing creatures. For years I had tried to capture Tiger Swallowtails flitting about in groups . . .  and finally, after waiting in just the right place, for just the right amount of time ~ voila!

If you are lucky, you might find the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail caterpillars munching on the leaves of black cherry, pin cherry, ash, apple and magnolia . . . to name a few trees that might be growing in your gardens and landscape. The butterflies may be sighted in flight beginning the middle of April and through October from one of their two broods. Overwintering occurs here in the chrysalis stage.

Back into now time . . . today and yesterday . . . three years pile up with sunrises and sunsets, waxing and waning moons, our gardens awake and falling into seasonal slumber, wildlife filling pages.

February Full Moon 2012

This February is quite different from February of three years past. The winter landscape is remarkably different in my first post

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND SUPPORT OVER THESE THREE YEARS!

Happy Anniversary Carol, i realized I am almost 4 yrs old, in March. I would love to reminisce those years from knowing no one to having some already as my friends, at least in blogging. But i think it transcends beyond blogging because the consciousness of the blogger and not blogger is just one! I thank my circumstances to have found you. Take care and God bless. By the way, those types of butterflies are one of the most beautiful swallowtails, however i haven't seen it in my place. You are very privileged.

I wish you a very happy third blogaversary! This morning I rescued a tiny citrus swallowtail caterpillar. He was on my Tahiti lime, the smallest citrus tree, and I moved him to a larger orange tree.

Before I noticed the words announcing your 3 year anniversary, I was struck with that beautiful blue sky in your first triptych. I seem to respond to those subtle blues with a hint of green—a more muted version in your last full moon image. Your photography, as always, is arresting; and your words are thoughtful and affecting. Congratulations and thank you for your inspirational posts.

Hello Carol:
We marvel at the patience you must have to sit and wait for the perfect photographs which you present for or delight in your posts. To capture these most beautiful creatures in flight is such a feat and the images here are art forms in themselves.

A remarkable achievement of three years of blogging. Over the years you have recorded the many wonders of the natural world which surrounds you at Flower Hill Farm and the many changes which have occurred in that time. It all comes together in the most beguiling of records and is a perfect tribute to your skills as a photographer, writer and artist.

Carol said...

Thank you Sweetbay! These sequence shots are best displayed side by side . . . I so agree! Thanks too for sticking with me all these years.

Carol said...

Dearest Jane and Lance, Thank you for this and all the many thoughtful words you have given me! It is easy to wait when there is such beauty and fragrance around, so I do not deserve much credit there . . . no suffering. ;>) I was so pleased to get three in a frame! At times I have seen up to seven floating in wave-like patterns together. You have hit upon exactly why I blog. I do so want to record all that happens here in this small wildlife habitat and hope to inspire others. Thank you, thank you!!
