"She beckons, and the woods start~
She nods and all begin~
Surely ~ such a country
I was never in."
Emily Dickinson

Strife strings along with the season ~
As well as wing embraces ~ a gentle feather waltz.
In the lower garden, tea and painting are most pleasant beneath the cherry tree chimes, though it might be called bee chimes too. The sounds remind one of a swarm of bees. This is such a common tree but not to me. I have tamed this being and we are dear old friends. Breezes begin to whip about her wispy delicate blooms, reminding one of pink confetti falling to the ground.

Ms. Bluebird and I are busy gathering detritus ~ she making a nest, while I build compost.
Mr. Bluebird is diligent about guarding their home.
"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul.
And sings the tune
Without the words
And never stops at all."
Emily Dickinson
We do always hope that birds will find our housing satisfactory, but all is not well in the housing market here at Flower Hill Farm. Strife indeed . . . this is one way I would say . . . that humans are a bit more well-mannered . . . we overbid but surely do not get into fights over housing. Perhaps that is not totally true. Surely we never try to take away each others partners in the process. For now, in the garden there are chase scenes and downright brawls over the nest boxes . . . ah, but things will settle down in a bit.
What is wrong with this picture?
Off with you ~ Ms. Bluebird has a nest in this house. There are two other houses that might suit you.
Here I thought the bluebirds were about to dive down upon a Tree Swallow . . . but hold on . . .
A skirmish between two male bluebirds is afoot.
The first Mr. Bluebird holds fast to his home and partner.
Walnut hill is coming alive in a myriad of green hues. I have eyed a number of returning warblers and the sounds of songs are lively at dawn. Our woodcock is still flying up high, performing his courtship wing dance, but it is now harder to hear him for all the other trills and twitters in concert ~ just as dawn paints the sky a tinge of rose.
Spring is joy.

Hello Carol:
The more we see of Flower Hill Farm the more we come to realise that in all probability, however far you travelled, you would be unlikely to find its equal. What you have succeeded in doing here, dear Carol, is to establish within your garden, and extending throughout your property, the most wonderful reserve for flora and fauna imaginable. It is all so interesting, pretty and, most importantly, cherished. Your knowledge of Nature is second to none and we, who continue to confuse moths and butterflies(!!), do so admire you for it.
If we were to wish for anything, it would be that one day we could, sitting with you under your cherry tree, experience it all for ourselves.
Old friend Cherry, Mr Bluebird and Walnut hill - you sure live in paradise!
Emily D became one of my favorites when I studied English literature in my youth!

Dear Carol ~ It is always a joyous treat to see what all is going on there at Flower Hill Farm. The pictures and words were wonderful.
Have a great weekend ~ FlowerLady
Dear Carol, your springtime looks magical--the photos of the magnolias and cherry, the cherry with the birch bark, and all the different greens almost looking like a painting where the leaves have been dotted with gold, literally made me gasp for breath. How wonderful to know a tree as well as you know your weeping cherry. I'm so glad you're feeling better and hope you have been able to enjoy sitting under the tree and its drifting confetti with an extra-full heart this spring. I'm also glad I don't have to fight to walk in the front door of my house everyday but can just use the key. Happy spring, Carol!

Hi Carol. I always love visiting your posting in the spring with all of your beautiful flowering trees. Your Bluebird pictures are so great. I have two boxes and they are both taken with Bluebirds this year. I always love seeing them in the spring. Have a wonderful weekend.
Your photos and farm always amaze me... looks like a little piece of heaven. And your bluebird pictures are excellent! What a great capture of the two males fighting. Spring is surely here!
I loved every shot in this series. The flowering trees are stunning. I love the shot of the magnolias and weeping cherry.
This week, we had chickadees nesting behind the house, but so far, have never seen blue birds around here in the spring.
All I can say is "awesome"! The way you've captured the birds is incredible...
Have a good weekend.
Your springtime joy is contagious! Having the littlest bit of a garden—inspired by you—I know how much work this takes. It is obviously work done for love's sake. Emily Dickinson's words are inspiring. As always are yours. The bluebird skirmish would be unbelievable . . . had you not captured it. A stunning post.
Excellent photos. I especially love the bluebirds. Thanks for sharing.
Spring is indeed joy, and your words, photos and passages, bring a lift to my heart.
i feel as though i experienced your photos more than looked at them. with all that bird activity, the protection of ones home and mate... brawling etc. wow. you capture such amazing sights!
plus your flowers.... they make my heart swoon ~

Wonderful pictures, I especially like the swallow and bluebird shots. Thanks for sharing.
Spring is sure enlivening walnut hill with the cyle of flowering and feathered reunions and battles. What a gem of a place for Earth Day!
Carol, your photos, as usual, are breathtaking! Your images of the birds building their nests are priceless!
