Exciting Sighting Today ~ Giant Swallowtail Butterfly

A hot day brings an exciting new sighting of a Giant Swallowtail Papilio cresphontes butterfly.
It was really a treat to be in the garden with this magnificent creature.
It is a rare visitor here in Massachusetts.

Motyl jest prześliczny, u nas takie nie fruwają. Zdjęcia też są wspaniałe. Pozdrawiam.
A butterfly is beautiful, We shall not fly. Photos are also great. Yours.

That is exciting! It is sure a beauty. I just looked to see if they have ever been seen in Maine. YES!! I will keep my eye out. Great photos, Carol.

Wow Carol...just beautiful. So pleased you shared your beautiful photos. It must be as large as a hummingbird judging by the size of the monarda. Lovely!!

Giant swallowtails are fairly common here, but I am thrilled anew every time I see one. As always, your photos are fabulous!

I, too, chase butterflies, trying to get the perfect photo, which you have so successfully with the swallowtail in flight. Mine are always blurry--in motions.

I happened upon your blog today and am positively blown away by the wonderful photography!! I just posted some photos of a Monarch on my blog last week. I am an amateur but am trying to teach myself. I love gardening too. I'm looking forward to receiving your blog in my 'in' box. Inspiration and a gift too> Thank you.

How lucky you are to pin it that way, as if it is steady there even on air. I know swallowtails don't just stop wiggling the forewings. We don't have that one, but we have lovely species here too. However, i really cannot pin those naughty wings. I wonder if my lens are slow or i just don't know how. I tried the multiple shots but can't see stable shots still. How are you Carol? take care...Andrea

Carol,

These photos are awesome, great job! I've only seen the Giant Swallowtail in NC twice with a great deal of time looking for them. In your state they are much more rare, wow great find and in your garden.

Beautiful photos, and butterflies are often so difficult to take photos of as they tend to fly away right when you are ready to push the button!

Your excitement is quite understandable! Every butterfly that flys through my garden is reason for celebration. I haven't seen too many swallowtails this year, but they usually stop by.

Thank you! Thank you all! The experience is all the more wonderful when sharing it.
African Aussie . . . you are so right! There are more chances of being in the right place at the right moment if we are in our gardens more too! ;>)
Barbara, I am very touched!
Andrea dear, I think my lyme has melded with my mind . . . it takes me so long to do anything that needs a brain. Trying to be in the garden more and less at the computer which frustrates me so. Thank you.
